A Design Writer’s Renovated Edinburgh Apartment
We’re in Edinburgh, Scotland, visiting the beautifully renovated flat of design writer Sarah Wood González.
Moving to Scotland wasn’t part of Sarah’s original plan. After years in New York, she realized a lifelong dream by moving to Spain, where she met her future husband. When his career brought them to Edinburgh, the couple found—and lovingly restored—a charming 19th-century tenement flat.
Sarah’s home is a melange of the places and experiences that have shaped her life. Treasures from Spanish flea markets, such as moody still lifes and ornate mirrors, bring character and history to the walls. Scottish textiles, gathered during her time studying and writing about local craft and design, are layered throughout the space, providing pops of color and a deep sense of connection to the place she now calls home.
Though Sarah identifies as a maximalist, she and her husband have seamlessly merged their styles to create a space that feels special and deeply personal. The result is a home that’s collected yet refined, playful yet grown-up.
