A Colorful Los Angeles Apartment with Vintage Charm & Bold Style

We're stepping inside the vibrant, playful 1950s apartment of interior designer and prop stylist Kitty Rheault in Los Angeles, California.

For Kitty, finding a true sense of home in L.A. only took a shift in perspective—literally. She and her husband moved just across the street from their old Los Feliz apartment, but the change brought a deeper connection to their neighborhood and the city itself.

Much like her evolving relationship with the city, Kitty’s apartment has undergone its own transformation. After what she playfully refers to as her “sad beige era,” she’s embraced a more daring design style: bold color pops, funky vintage treasures (including a sculptural metal chair that’s more art than seating), and an ever-growing collection of standout artwork.

This retro apartment is packed with charming architectural details—like contrasting pink and baby blue tiles in the bathroom and crown molding that frames the ceilings. Even the kitchen, which Kitty affectionately calls “the landlord special,” radiates vintage charm and classic L.A. cool. Meanwhile, the couple’s shared art studio serves as a creative haven, mixing Kitty’s design work and vintage props with her husband’s musical instruments and gear. It’s a space where they can explore their creativity, side by side.

Kitty’s fun, eclectic home is living proof that sometimes, all it takes to feel at home is a move to the sunny side of the street.
